About

Claire Zarouhee Nereim in an interdisciplinary artist who primarily makes books, drawings, and sculptures. Inspired by concrete poetry and arte povera, her work foregrounds the materiality of language and explores various relationships between architecture, botany, and feminized bodies.

She is currently working on a long term project titled The Fork in the Salad, composed of writing, drawings and sculptures, centered on a metaphor that troubles the idea of “nature,” often mapped onto the feminine and the maternal, as separate from culture.

Her work has been exhibited across the United States and Europe. Nereim received an MFA (2011) from California Institute of the Arts and a BA (2003) from Oberlin College. Born in Chicago, she lives and works in Los Angeles.
